Vacancy Reference SOCI20-2; SOCI20-4; SOCI20-6
Durham University is a globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence, a collegiate community of extraordinary people, within a unique and historic setting. The Department of Sociology is a supportive, exciting place to work or study Sociology, Criminology or Social Work. We are committed to producing the highest quality theoretically informed research that makes a difference. Currently rated 11th in the Good University Guide, our ambitions are to be a world leading Department of Sociology; to deliver distinctive, challenging programmes; and to be fair, inclusive, and socially responsible.
We are continuing to expand our research capacity in four overarching research themes. For these Assistant Professor posts, we are looking for candidates with a growing track record in an area of research that aligns clearly with one or more of our four research themes:
- Communities and Social Justice
- Health and Social Theory
- Higher Education and Social Inequality
- Violence and Abuse
We welcome applications from candidates who can teach across our Sociology and Criminology programmes and are seeking to strengthen our areas of programme delivery in the areas of Sociological Theory, Criminological optional topics aligned with our areas of research excellence and ‘Race’ and Ethnicity research.
We particularly welcome candidates from Black, Asian and other Minority Ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in our Department. We also welcome applications from previous applicants.
