York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us.

Significant investment in our campus and facilities, the development of forward-thinking new partnerships and an enhanced range of contemporary courses have helped make us one of the fastest growing universities in the U.K. over recent years.

Now we are building on that achievement, with a new Strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region. We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset and investing in enabling this expertise to thrive.

All of this takes place at the heart of beautiful York, recently named by the Sunday Times as the best U.K. city to grow up in because of the quality of education, culture and community spirit that we form part of.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Lecturer in Education.

Due to the continuing growth in the School of Education we are looking to strengthen and expand our undergraduate portfolio, especially in the area of initial teacher education.  It is essential that applicants possess a combination of both professional and academic qualifications. The post holder should therefore have qualified teacher status (QTS) and significant experience in primary school teaching.  Expertise is required in the teaching of primary mathematics, computing and science.

For applicants not currently in possession of a doctoral qualification there will be a clear expectation to work towards such from commencing employment.

Please refer to Section 6.3 of the below 'Senior Lecturer criteria' document and provide evidence within the 'supporting statements' section of your application to demonstrate that you meet the requirements

Please contact Caroline Elbra-Ramsay at C.ElbraRamsay@yorksj.ac.uk or 01904 876523 if you would like further information regarding the role.

If you would like to shape the story of an institution that has been changing lives through education since 1841, we would love to hear from you.

In addition to a competitive salary and the opportunity to work at our beautiful campus in the heart of York, YSJ employees enjoy access to a superb range of benefits including –

  • Generous annual leave entitlement (plus additional leave days during our Christmas closure period)
  • Pension scheme
  • Health cash plan
  • Training and development
  • Discounts at a wide range of high street brands and local companies, including shops, cinemas and gyms.

We welcome all applicants and particularly people from minority ethnic backgrounds as they are underrepresented within the university.

As part of our commitment to providing an inclusive working environment, consideration is given to all request for job share or flexible working arrangements.

Please note that CVs are not accepted in place of the application form.
