The Dean of Arts and Sciences at Ashesi University seeks an outstanding leader-teacher-scholar with energy and vision to serve as an instructor for College Writing and oversee the work of the University Writing Center.

About the Role

The college writing and writing centre lead will develop our emerging Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) initiative. With the support of an Assistant Director and a team of high-achieving student volunteers, the Writing Center supports writing instruction for students, staff, and faculty across Ashesi's campus. 

The Writing Centre Lead reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences, with the following responsibilities: interview, train, and supervise student tutors; lead writing development programs (e.g. workshops for students or faculty); collaborate with faculty in developing writing skills in students across our disciplines;  teach Text and Meaning and/or Written and Oral Communication.

The search committee is especially interested to hear from candidates who will bring diverse perspectives to their administrative work and teaching, from non-traditional educational backgrounds or an understanding of the experience of those under-represented in higher education.

This is a full-time academic position. General Requirements

  • A Ph.D. with teaching and research experience in English, or English Literature, or Writing, or a related field (a master’s degree with relevant teaching experience will also be considered for adjunct and assistant lecturer positions) 
  • Willingness to teach in a participatory learning environment.
  • Willingness to engage in research and supervise undergraduate projects.
  • Demonstrated capability in the use of computer technology for teaching.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with the liberal arts method of instruction.
  • Ability to design curriculum with experience in business management.
  • Industry experience is an advantage.

Preferences

Ph.D. preferred. Experience teaching college-level writing, tutorial work and administrative experience in Writing Centers preferred. Evidence of scholarly engagement with the field of writing pedagogy and Writing Center administration is also desirable.
