Applications are invited for a 12 month research position working on a Government funded project between Northumbria University and Sage (UK) Ltd.

The project will test the innovative use of accountants as trusted advisers to enable the uptake of “tried-and tested technologies, accountancy, CRM or HR software or payment systems” by SMEs. The project focuses on training accountants to transfer knowledge about digital adoption to their SME customers. This route is supported by the CBI “From Ostrich to Magpie” report (2017): that improving UK companies’ adoption of existing technologies offers a unique opportunity to raise their business productivity.

This project draws upon a mixed methods approach with the successful candidate taking responsibility for the qualitative element of the project, working on a realistic process evaluation component.

The candidate will work with Associate Professor, Dr Hannah Hesselgreaves.  This specific evaluation research is part of a larger Random Control Trial, therefore the candidate will have the opportunity to work and interact with other research groups and SMEs across England.

The successful candidate will be working towards or due completion of a PhD in business or a social science discipline. Experience in qualitative research is essential and previous experience of working on research projects is desirable.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Hannah Hesselgreaves
