Faculty Positions at the HNU-ASU Joint International Tourism College, Hainan University (HAITC, 海南大学亚利桑那州立大学联合国际旅游学院)

HAITC is hiring a cluster of faculty in public administration, hotel management, and parks and recreationmanagement. These positions are based in Haikou, Hainan, China.

School Information

Hainan University (HNU) is a comprehensive provincial university in Haikou, Hainan. It is one of the “211 Project” key universities in China. HAITC is an innovative joint college, a Sino-foreign cooperative tourism institution approved by the Ministry of Education of China. HAITC currently offers three dual-degree programs: Tourism Development and Management, Parks and Recreation Management, and Public Administration. All three programs started in fall 2017, with over 520 undergraduate students currently registering. Courses are taught by both HNU and ASU faculty members.

Our partner, the Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions at Arizona State University, is a vibrant community of active scholars committed to excellence in education and innovative responses to collective problems. The Watts College consists of four schools that include the School of Community Resources and Development (SCRD) and the School of Public Affairs (SPA). SPA is ranked #13 in the U.S., according to U.S. News and World Report, and #5 in research, according to the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities. Based on 2018 CWUR academic rankings of global universities, ASU is ranked # 7 in the world (#2 in the U.S.) in subjects of hospitality, leisure, sports, and tourism.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidates will be expected to deliver excellent in-class instruction at the undergraduate level, develop and maintain internationally recognized research programs, and participate in service activities for the college, profession and community. Courses are taught in English. Contributing to graduate education is anticipated in the future. The appointment will begin in spring 2019 or until positions are fulfilled. These will be fixed term positions that can be renewed. All these faculty positions are stable and renewable depending on teaching and research performance.  

 Qualifications

  1. Faculty Position in Public Administration

1. Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in public administration, political science, economics or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of a strong or promising program of scholarship in public policy or public administration
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations
  • Fluent in English

2. Desired Qualifications

  • Teaching focused on introductory public policy and one or more other areas of expertise including but not limited to public policy and economics, public management and leadership
  • Research focused on public policy or public management
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in the classroom
  • Evidence of work on both internally and externally-funded research projects

Faculty Position in Hotel Management

1. Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree in hotel and tourism management, recreation, leisure studies, MICE management or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of a strong or promising program of scholarship in tourism studies
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations
  • Fluent in English

2. Desired Qualifications

  • Teaching focused on introductory hotel, tourism and leisure knowledge, and one or more other areas of expertise including but not limited to hotel and resort management, human resource management and development in hospitality,finance and accounting, hospitality marketing, food and beverage, revenue management
  • Research focused on hospitality education, consumer behavior, attraction and visitors management, luxury branding, theme hotel management,game and casino club management, medical tourism, sustainability in hospitality, or hospitality in free trade zones
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in the classroom
  • Evidence of work on both internally and externally-funded research projects
  • At least 2 years working experience in hospitality or related industries

Faculty Position in Parks and Recreation Management

1. Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree in parks, recreation, leisure studies, community development, planning, human geography, economics or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of a strong or promising program of scholarship in parks and recreation management
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations
  • Fluent in English

2. Desired Qualifications

  • Teaching focused on introductory leisure and parks and recreation knowledge, recreation programming, and one or more other areas of expertise including but not limited to community services and professions, park management, recreation management, facility planning, diversity and inclusion, and sustainable communities
  • Research focused on park management, tourism and city parks, human dimension of natural resources, island/coastal recreation management, national parks in China
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in the classroom
  • Evidence of work on both internally and externally-funded research projects

Faculty Position in Tourism Management

1. Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate degree in tourism, recreation, leisure studies, community development, geography, planning, economics or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment
  • Evidence of a strong or promising program of scholarship in tourism studies
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to work with culturally-diverse populations
  • Fluent in English

2. Desired Qualifications

  • Teaching focused on introductory tourism and leisure knowledge, and one or more other areas of expertise including but not limited to sustainable tourism, tourism planning, hotel management, tourism management, tourism marketing, community services and professions, sustainable communities, and diversity and inclusion
  • Research focused on sustainable tourism, tourism education, island/coastal/tropical tourism, tourism in Southeast Asia, agritourism, health tourism, tourism technology, or tourism in tax free zones
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively in the classroom
  • Evidence of work on both internally and externally-funded research projects
