Applications are invited for appointment as Non-Tenure Track Associate Professor in Buddhist Studies in the Centre of Buddhist Studies (Ref.: 498426), to commence on January 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

The Centre promotes innovative thinking and new horizons for Buddhist studies and research. Information on the Centre can be obtained at http://www.buddhism.hku.hk.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree with at least five years' teaching experience in a recognized tertiary institution. They should be able to direct research activities and supervise postgraduate students, and have an established record of research and publications.  The area of expertise sought is Early Buddhism and/or Theravada Buddhism. Those who can teach introductory and advanced courses in Early Buddhism and Theravada Buddhism, contribute to teaching the Centre’s general curricula, such as Intro to Religious Studies and Research Methodology in Buddhist Studies, and have the language competency in Pali and a vernacular of the Traditional Theravada Buddhist lands are preferred. 

The appointee will contribute to undergraduate teaching, the Common Core Curriculum, the taught postgraduate programme and the research postgraduate programmes, and will be expected to apply for external grants. He/She will also carry out administrative duties as appropriate to their rank.

A highly competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
