UNSW Sydney has embarked upon a global search for its next Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Innovation and Enterprise to follow on from the outstanding work of Professor Brian Boyle who is retiring this year.

Established in 1949, UNSW Sydney brings a unique focus on the scientific, technological and professional disciplines and is a powerhouse of cutting-edge research, teaching and innovation. We are one of the top 100 universities in the world and have observed a remarkable rise in our global standing, as attested most recently by QS World University Rankings (43rd) and ARWU (94th). In the latest Evaluation of Research Australia (ERA), UNSW was the leading university for the combination of Research Quality and research impact.

Knowledge transfer, the innovation agenda and facilitating a culture of enterprise are key aspects of the UNSW 2025 Strategy. The Division of Enterprise fosters an innovative environment and knowledge exchange for researchers and students to leverage UNSW’s engagement with government, industry and the community to advance social progress and economic prosperity. Over the last 4 years the Division has enhanced an enterprise culture, increased business contracts two fold, grown student startups four fold and led a dynamic portfolio of precincts, partnerships and alliances in Australia and globally.  Exciting new initiatives being coordinated by the Division include the $2b Randwick Health Education Precinct, the Western Sydney Aerotropolis and the UNSW Canberra Campus.

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a key Division that has already played a crucial role in delivering UNSW’s vision to translate academic excellence in to impact and application.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Innovation & Enterprise will be a proven leader, able to contribute strategically not only to the Division, but as part of the University’s Senior Leadership Team and Management Board. They will have experience of navigating academia, business, industry, government, and communities in a synergistic fashion in order to promote an environment of genuine innovation and impact. The role requires an entrepreneurial spirit and the insight and judgement to engage with a range of stakeholders nationally and internationally.
