Job description

We are currently looking for a Lecturer in Psychology to join our School of Applied Sciences on a full time basis. We will be appointing to one of the following academic pathways, ResearchProfessional Practice or Learning & Teaching.

Edinburgh Napier University is listed as a top 10 Modern UK University for Psychology and Social Science. Our GBP 60million Science and Health Campus in Sighthill houses purpose-built psychology labs with experiment generating and analysis software, and specialist labs for perception, eye-tracking, observation of social interaction, Bio-Pac and EEG Equipment.

Our significant capital investment programme has provided experimental testing/interview rooms supported by state of the art video cameras and editing facilities. We have a DI14D Pro System (with three pods) for markerless high fidelity facial motion capture in both black and white and colour; and SMI iViewX RED Eyetracker.

Staff and postgraduate students in the Psychology subject group are involved in a range of research areas covering Forensic Psychology, Applied Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, and Occupational and Work Psychology.

The role

As Lecturer, you will develop, design, and deliver teaching and assess student learning on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We welcome applications from all areas and particularly welcome expertise in Forensic Psychology, Child Development, or Health Psychology. You will be required to work independently and collaboratively to contribute to the research profile of the Psychology group, leading to the production of high quality research outputs/outcomes. This will include working with external partners, where appropriate.

Essential requirements

  • Doctoral level qualification in relevant subject area
  • Experience of teaching and assessment
  • Evidence of recent Psychology research activity
  • Commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team

Desirable requirements

  • Fellowship of Higher Education Academy and/or equivalent teaching qualification
  • BPS-accredited degree, or equivalent, in Psychology
  • Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate research supervision, ideally both quantitative and qualitative
