Salary:      £15.98 per hour
Closing Date:      Sunday 01 September 2019
Interview Date:      To be confirmed

(Hourly Paid, Autumn Term Only)

Fixed Term, Variable Hours

We are seeking technicians with experience of industry level film or broadcast television production in camera department and related operations to contribute to the training and advisory support our technical team offers undergraduate and taught postgraduate students in the Media Arts Centre.

This is a temporary arrangement during the Autumn Term while we are in the process of appointing a full time role-holder and covering other staffing commitments.

Led by award-winning world-class experts in the field and practising professionals, we are committed to achieving the highest standards in both the study and practice of screen media. Students on our undergraduate and taught-post graduate programmes produce a range of creative production work, engaging in real-world practicalities of film making in screen fiction, documentary and interactive forms of storytelling. Many of our graduates make a valuable contribution t0 the creative industries in a broad range of careers.

This role corresponds to our full-time Media Arts Technician posts and will comprise a mixture of leading workshops in operational film making skills, assisting academic and other technical staff who are leading workshops, and providing background technical support in the Media Arts Centre.

The work days and hours are variable to enable delivery of scheduled technical workshops, but would normally be delivered in blocks of at least three hours and may vary from week to week depending on requirements throughout the term. We will need more than one person to fulfil all of our requirements. For information, the full-time equivalent week is 35 hours, so this would be the maximum requirement for one person in any one week.

To offer an idea of the pattern of work, on Mondays and Tuesdays we deliver 1st year practice skills workshops for our BA Film, Television and Digital Production course with core introductory skills training. On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays we run 2nd and 3rd year undergraduate classes in specific practice course options, and taught postgraduate workshops. Training will involve practical classes using professional camera, lighting and sound equipment to enable students to work individually or in crews in a wide range of assessed practical work, mostly on location.

Teaching begins on Monday 30th September, and the requirement for this role is not expected to extend beyond Friday 13th December (11 weeks). The contract will start earlier in order to facilitate course planning and familiarisation.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Training and Development opportunities
  • Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
  • Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
  • Free parking

Based primarily at our Egham campus, there may be occasional requirement to work at our Bedford Square facility in Central London.

Hourly rate is £15.98 inc London Allowance.
