The opportunity

The Australian Institute for Innovative Materials(AIIM) is the flagship research institute at the University of Wollongong with a focus on multidisciplinary materials science fundamental and applied research. The Australian Research Council has awarded a Discovery Project to develop novel magnetic materials with unique skyrmion spin structure for the applications in the information storage of next generation. A PhD Scholarship opportunity arises, as part of this Discovery Project, with a focus on the design, fabrication and characterization of such unique materials. The outcomes will be novel magnetic skyrmion materials which can work at room temperature with potential for future applications in spintronic devices. The research will be undertaken, on a full time basis, at the AIIM facility at the Innovation Campus in Wollongong, New South Wales.


The 2019 Research Training Program (RTP) living allowance stipend is AUD $27,596 per annum (indexed annually), tax free for three years and is offered as part of this PhD opportunity.


Applicants must hold relevant Master / honours level qualifications in relevant discipline (e.g. condensed matter physics or  materials science). Experience in magnetism or magnetic materials will be highly regarded. It is essential that PhD Scholarship applicants can work collaboratively in a multi discipline team. Excellent English language (written and oral) skills are required.
