Position Focus:

The Yale Center for Analytical Sciences (YCAS) and Yale Center for Clinical Investigation (YCCI) are seeking a biostatistician to assist faculty in the delivery of biostatistical/ epidemiologic support to clinical investigators at the Yale School of Medicine. Essential Duties of the position call for incumbent to interact with YCAS, YCCI and clinical faculty to assure compliance in the registration and reporting of clinical research studies to clinicaltrials.gov.; conduct statistical analysis and generate summary statistics required for reporting to clinicaltrials.gov.; assure clear and accurate reporting of participant flow, baseline characteristics, outcome measures and adverse events to clinicaltrials.gov.; be responsible for understanding of reporting requirements (i.e. FDAAA, ICMJE etc.) and serve as a resource for assisting and training YCAS and clinical faculty; support aspects of data analysis from extraction of data and preparation of datasets to carrying out analyses under guidance from core faculty; interact with the YCAS collaborative team to provide biostatistical and epidemiologic support to clinical investigators from the hypothesis generation phase through the dissemination of results; carry out analyses for many types of data and types of studies including clinical trials and observational studies; determine appropriate statistical approach and conduct statistical analysis of data from experimental and observational clinical research studies; prepare written reports that summarize the analysis of research data, interpret the findings and provide conclusions and recommendations; provide biostatistical consultation and assistance to faculty and others; meet with investigators to assess statistical needs; work on several projects concurrently; perform other duties for YCAS at the discretion of the director.

Essential Duties

  1. Performs a variety of duties involving the application of statistical skills to the design of research studies. Works as a member of a research team/study team to provide appropriate statistical input in the design, execution and analysis of studies.
  2. Participates in the development of operations and procedures for the collection, editing, verification and management of statistical data.
  3. Operates one or more systems of computer hardware and statistical analysis software for the management and analysis of data. Evaluates the statistical methods and procedures used to obtain data to ensure validity, applicability, efficiency, and accuracy.
  4. Analyzes and interprets statistical data to identify significant differences in relationships among sources of information.
  5. Processes large amounts of data for statistical modeling and graphic analysis, using computers.
  6. Investigates, evaluates and prepares reports on applicability, efficiency, and accuracy of statistical methods used in obtaining and evaluation data.
  7. Participates in the preparation of written and oral presentations that summarize the analysis of data, interprets the finding and provides conclusions and recommendations.
  8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent organization skills with the ability to multi-task by setting working priorities among a number of conflicting demands.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Ability to work in a collaborative environment with the Biostatistics team and clinical investigators having differing quantitative and clinical backgrounds. Ability to write, discuss and present the statistical aspects of studies with Biostatistics team and clinical investigators.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Working knowledge of longitudinal methods with missing data, regression modeling, survival analysis, categorical analysis and sample size determination. 

Required Skill/Ability 5:

R, STATA, SPSS and SAS programming experience.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience in clinical trials including design, data monitoring and analysis. Experience in longitudinal and regression modeling with missing data, survival analysis, and categorical data analysis.
