It is located in the Meilahti Campus, offering excellent opportunities for close collaboration with both the University Hospital and public sector research institutes. Helsinki Institute of Life Sciences (HiLIFE) is a new institute established in 2017 that supports high quality life science research across the campuses and faculties of UH, and coordinates research infrastructures in life sciences.

Genome Biology Unit (GBU) is a core facility in the Genome Editing, Function and Stem Cell research infrastructure platform of HiLIFE. GBU distributes genome-scale cDNA clones and offers cloning services to biomedical research groups. GBU also provides high throughput scanning services of brightfield and fluorescent microscopy slides.

GBU is currently looking for a LABORATORY TECHNICIAN.

The position is available during a maternity leave 21.10.2019-29.2.2020 with probable extension to 31.8.2020.

The position involves laboratory work including cDNA cloning and automated slide scanning, as well as customer service and billing. The position also involves laboratory maintenance, research and development tasks, as well as researcher training.

The successful candidate will work in a small team in close connection with research groups. Higher vocational diploma or a master's degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent is required, and experience in molecular biology laboratory work including DNA cloning is mandatory.

Successful implementation of your tasks will require technical prowess, independent problem-solving ability, fluent written and oral communication skills in English and capability for teamwork with researchers coming from different backgrounds. Preferred but not required experience includes analysis of brightfield and fluorescent microscopy slides, FileMaker software usage, and customer service.
