The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) offers programmes in the areas of History, English Literature, Media, Culture, Communication, International Relations and Sociology. You will be joining a vibrant school that provides an outstanding learning environment for students and prioritises both excellence in teaching and supporting staff to produce impactful and high quality research of international standing. HSS is well positioned for a very strong REF 2021 performance and in the latest National Student survey (NSS) the subject areas in the school scored an average of 89% overall satisfaction, which is 6% above the sector average. Students are encouraged to be creative, enthusiastic and scholarly in their approach to learning. Their programmes of study allow them to engage in debate with a range of practitioners and cultural partners locally, nationally and internationally, demonstrating the university’s civic and global engagement agenda.

This is an exciting opportunity for those who are highly motivated, creative and committed to the ongoing pursuit of excellence in teaching. You will contribute to the BA Sociology and BA Criminology and Sociology programmes. You will lead modules relating to quantitative and qualitative research methods and be involved in a range of team delivered teaching activities.

Applicants should have experience of teaching in higher education, coupled with a good first degree and Doctorate, or be near completion of a Doctorate, in Sociology or a related area.
