  • Fixed- Term for 6 months, base salary $93,986 p.a. plus superannuation

About the opportunity 

Reporting to the Director, this role is pivotal for International House in its contribution to the University of Sydney’s strategy of providing a safe and vibrant campus life. You will be responsible for the planning, organisation and control of the catering, housekeeping and maintenance services, managing all contractors and agency staffing via University policies and procedures as well as being responsible for all aspects of the building operation and facilities after business hours. In this role you will be maintaining the standards of the House in these key service areas including meeting resident expectations and financial targets.

The position also includes the option to live in onsite accommodation (in a two bedroom unit within International House) and to receive a rental subsidy plus one hour of overtime per week in addition to the rental subsidy for being on-call after business hours and any additional work undertaken on a roster system. After business hours duties are required as per a weekly roster system (from 5pm to 9am on weekdays, and each day on weekends, public holidays and during the University close down periods) . Please note the Operations Manager role is available to candidates who do not wish to take up this additional option and associated responsibilities.   

About you

  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with people at all levels including internal stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, suppliers and with other professional and technical bodies
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to maintain a high level of interpersonal professional relations with residents and staff
  • Ability to manage the building and care of its residents after business hours on a rostered basis
  • Knowledge of procurement and contract management policies and procedures
  • Ability to respond to all emergencies and evacuations as required. Contribute to the operation of International House by attending to and reporting all emergencies, operations and WHS issues.
  • Experience in a similar role providing hands-on operations management across areas of catering, housekeeping and building maintenance
  • Ability to respond to urgent requests and problem solve in a timely manner
  • Skills in budget development and management
  • Excellent organisational skills and a high level of flexibility, specifically to manage the oversight and delivery of services for International House including after business hours functions and events, and the summer vacation business.
