Overview:

The Advice and Counselling Service is a multidisciplinary student support service offering counselling and psychological support, psychiatry clinics, welfare advice, financial advice and immigration advice.

The service currently employs 21 staff equating to approximately 15 FTE, plus a small number of counselling trainees and associates.  There are three staff teams: counselling team, welfare advice team and frontline services team.

The post holder will join an established and successful counselling team who provide mainly short term therapeutic interventions to support students at the university. As part of the Advice and Counselling Service, you will also work closely with a team of welfare advisers.

We are looking for CBT Therapists or Counsellors to join our existing team of counsellors, CBT therapists, consultant psychiatrists, a group therapist and trainees/associates, with experience of working flexibly in an institutional setting and delivering assessments and short term therapy/counselling. The work will involve assessing clients, deciding on whether further sessions would be helpful, managing risk and offering one to one sessions to students, as well as possibly some group/workshop delivery.

Applicants must have an appropriate postgraduate qualification which includes a core CBT component, a CBT training, or they must have a postgraduate qualification in Counselling or Psychotherapy with a core psychodynamic or psychoanalytic component. We are also looking for applicants with significant post-qualification experience who are used to working with clients from diverse backgrounds and social groups, and preferably with experience of working with young adults.

You must have excellent communication skills, and be able to work both independently and as a member of a team.

It is a requirement of the role that the post holder will have an Enhanced DBS check.

We are open to discussing in interview preferences of applicants with regard to whether they are interested in a 0.6 or 0.8 post, as well as patterns of work, but working on a Wednesday would be essential because of the scheduling of team meetings on that day.

The posts are 0.8 and 0.6 FTE (28 and 21 hours per week), permanent appointments, with an expected start date of January 2020. Starting salary will be in the range of £37,411 - £44,015 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave pro rata, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

The nature of this role will mean the post holder may be required to work one evening per week (for which TOIL will be given).
