Job description

At Lancashire Law School we commit to provide for our 1000+ law and criminology students, drawn from the UK and overseas, a learning experience which is stimulating, challenging, high quality and research-informed.  The School offers a full suite of undergraduate, masters and research degrees as well as professional postgraduate training, solicitor apprenticeships and CPD courses.  We have a network of high quality partnerships in the UK and overseas and run a number of externally funded research and knowledge transfer projects.  Building on a strong performance in the last REF, we are seeking to make an excellent return to the next REF for the subject law.

The School has a friendly, supportive and engaged staff base with a shared vision for excellence. With over 50 successful, well qualified and culturally diverse academic staff, we are now looking to enhance expertise in the foundation subjects of law through the appointment of a lecturer.

The post holder will contribute broadly to the School’s wide portfolio of taught courses, supervise postgraduate research students and actively engage in research and / or innovation activities.  Without limiting the call for applications, the School particularly welcomes applications from those who are qualified in mediation and with a teaching and research interest in the foundation legal subjects and/or professional business law.

The successful applicant should hold a good honours degree (or equivalent) in law, a relevant master’s qualification or a postgraduate professional qualification, and preferably hold or be willing to register for a PhD. Ideally applicants will hold a teaching qualification or demonstrate willingness to undertake such a qualification.

Evidence of ability to produce publications to contribute to future REFs, and/or a willingness to engage in income generation and high quality research or knowledge transfer work is essential.

Utilising excellent communication and presentation skills the successful applicant will demonstrate a flexible and innovative approach to teaching and learning and be able to teach/supervise dissertations up to post graduate level.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview.

Please apply online via www.uclan.ac.uk/jobs or by contacting Human Resources on 01772 892324 quoting the reference number. CVs will not be considered unless accompanied by a completed application form.

UCLan Values

Company

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) was founded in Preston in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge.  Since those early days it has transitioned into one of the UK’s leading, modern universities with a student body comprising some 120 nations and an overall learning community approaching 38,000.

Throughout its development ‘Ex solo ad solem’, or in translation, ‘From the Earth to the Sun’, has been its motto – helping talented people from all walks of life to make the most of their potential. Staff at UCLan pride themselves on putting the needs of students at the centre of everything they do and in 2014 this shared core value was highlighted when the University achieved IIP Gold status.

In 2015 the Centre for World University Rankings placed UCLan in the top 3.8 percent of all worldwide universities and over the coming years UCLan’s £200 million Campus Masterplan development will create a truly world-class educational environment that will propel the University to new levels of excellence.
