An Infrastructure Software Officer is required by the Data Centre Services group within IT Services to help maintain and support essential University IT.  It is our strategic vision that the Data Centre Services group will host all of the University’ non-research server hardware and common infrastructure software.  The group is currently responsible for over 700 servers which provide a diverse range of services to staff and students.

This is a challenging and important position for a bright, motivated and enthusiastic systems engineer with a service oriented ethos.  The successful candidate will assist in running the College's central web, email, directories and identity management and other core information systems and will contribute to the general running of the Data Centre Services group.

Candidates should have a degree (or equivalent) in an IT related subject and have experience of systems engineering in a modern mixed Windows and Linux data centre environment and expertise in most of the following critical technology areas:

  • Office 365 and Exchange Online experience.
  • Administration of SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business
  • Active Directory
  • Identity Management with  FIM, Active Roles Server or other IAM systems.
  • Scripting with PowerShell or .Net or other programming experience.
  • Windows Server Operating Systems & management: SCOM or SCCM    
  • Experience of the following technologies would also be advantageous:  
  • Web:  IIS, ASP, Apache, Tomcat, or PHP
  • Databases:  SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle
  • Network Service Protocols:  TCP/IP, SMTP, HTTP, DNS and LDAP

The post holder will be responsible for various operational and development aspects of the software systems that the University operates these will include email systems, web systems, authentication systems and a variety of other services.

The post is full time and fixed term for 18 months. Salary will be on a graded scale starting at £37,411 (to £44,015) per annum inclusive of London Allowance.  Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.  Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
