Position Description

The Department of English seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Literature and the Environment. The successful candidate may be a scholar in any historical or cultural field of Anglophone literature. Knowledge of environmental science and familiarity with environmental literature in languages other than English will be favorably regarded. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2020. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They will also be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Faculty and University by pursing a full program of scholarly research and course development, advising undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing independent research projects, and engaging in an appropriate amount of service.

Doctorate in English or related discipline required by the time the appointment begins.

At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor. 7. Writing sample or scholarly publication, c. 25-30 pages.

Those in serious consideration for the position will be expected to submit as much of the dissertation as is completed, or a book-length publication, as well as any other relevant materials, in early November.
