Position Description

The Department of English seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Literature and the Environment. The successful candidate may be a scholar in any historical or cultural field of Anglophone literature. Knowledge of environmental science and familiarity with environmental literature in languages other than English will be favorably regarded. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2020. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. They will also be expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the Faculty and University by pursing a full program of scholarly research and course development, advising undergraduate and graduate students, overseeing independent research projects, and engaging in an appropriate amount of service.

Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received. At least one letter must come from someone who has not served as the candidate’s undergraduate, graduate, or postdoctoral advisor. The deadline for receiving letters of recommendation is Sunday, October 20, 2019.
  7. Writing sample or scholarly publication, c. 25-30 pages.

Those in serious consideration for the position will be expected to submit as much of the dissertation as is completed, or a book-length publication, as well as any other relevant materials, in early November.
