Since 1850, St Mary’s mission has been to provide a high quality academic and professional environment, inspired by its distinctive ethos and values. The University is an inclusive academic community, where everybody is welcomed.

St Mary’s provides an inspiring and welcoming environment and has a strong, supportive community. The University is proud of the support it gives to its students, and the support is underpinned by the provision of teaching that is student-focused with a strong emphasis on skills and character development.

At St Mary’s you will be encouraged to nurture and educate our students, preparing them to be ready to meet the challenges of today and anticipate those of tomorrow.

Sport is a fundamental component of St Mary’s strategic vision, purpose and ethos and Sport St Mary’s utilises sport in innovative and transformative ways to significantly enhance the student and staff experience and achieve institutional goals and outcomes. The Which? University awards recognise St Mary’s as one of the UK’s best institutions for sport. Our new £8.5m sports centre was home to athletes from ten teams during the London 2012 Olympic Games. Additionally 22 St Mary’s athletes competed in the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Department oversees the development and management of world-class sports facilities facilitating core delivery of a raft of sport and PE related degrees and student sport. Sport St Mary’s unique programme sees elite and community sport developed side-by-side and expertise derived out of elite sport fed into, and in turn has being re-energised, by student and local community sport. Primary school children, students, staff and local sport participants are all helped to achieve their full potential in the same venue, utilising the same sport medicine and sport science services, as some of the world’s best sportsmen and women.

We are looking for a Receptionist to join our team to deliver a first-class reception service within the sports facilities to students, staff and visitors and be the first point of contact within the St. Mary’s Sport Centre reception. Your responsibilities will include meeting and greeting customers, taking casual/walk-in bookings, provide advice on memberships and information to visitors regarding the St Mary’s Sports Village, operating the leisure management system and supporting the Sport St. Mary’s operational team.

Successful applicants will need to have a minimum English grade C at GCSE level education or equivalent, a basic level of numeracy, accurate typing skills and ability to prioritise work. The applicant will also need to have one to two years’ experience in an effective leisure reception or front of house operation.

Other significant league table changes include a rise of 25 places in the 2019 Guardian University Guide league table, to 80th in the UK, and 17 places in the Complete University Guide as a notable climber.

In addition, we have a vibrant culture and environment.

Our core values; inclusiveness, generosity of spirit, respect and excellence underpin all we do as a University and we are actively working to embed these into our daily behaviours.  We want to create the best possible conditions for our students and staff to develop into independent problem solvers and ethical leaders, enthusiastic about knowledge and learning, and able to get things done.
