Job description

Further your career with Edinburgh Napier University

Why join us?

As a top 10 Modern UK University for bioscience, our School of Applied Sciences offers our students an experience beyond the classroom. Based in the heart of Scotland's historic and culturally rich capital city, we encourage student development through personalised learning and our strong links within industry.

At the School of Applied Sciences putting theory into practice is our guiding ethos, using science to help you make a difference. Our GBP 60Million, purpose-built science and health campus in Sighthill houses a full range of cutting-edge facilities where staff, students and researchers tackle global and local issues affecting health, society and the environment.

Our research focuses upon understanding of health and disease from diverse perspectives. We use experimental approaches to determine mechanisms of disease development, to identify new biomarkers of diseases and explore novel therapeutic approaches.  We have a strong reputation for applied education and research within life sciences, this is something that we are keen to develop and expand upon over the coming years. This brings an exciting opportunity for a lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science to join our life sciences team.

The role

We are looking to appoint a candidate who will develop and deliver high-quality teaching and assessment to support undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including supervising and supporting student project work in the laboratory, particularly focusing on providing a significant contribution to MSc Pharmaceutical & Analytical Science, which includes modules in Quality Control & Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology & Pharmaceutics, as well as other relevant teaching.

This comes with development of a sustainable research portfolio to complement and extend our existing strengths in Biomedical Science and related fields of expertise within the School.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for individuals who have a passion for education, who will commit to enhancement and innovation in teaching and contribute to development of new programmes/modules. Essential to this position is a doctorate level qualification within a related subject field. We are keen to speak with applied academics, with experience of working either directly within their chosen industry or with strong industrial links.

Candidates should have experience of development and leadership of teaching at different levels and we are particularly interested in people with experience at the interface of drug development and analytical science, pharmacology, development of novel therapeutics, or related areas of biomedical research.

Aligned to our research or enterprise pathways, candidates will be keen to develop their research portfolio and will be ambitious and enthusiastic about cross-disciplinary and collaborative working across the University and with external partners across academia and industry. This is an exciting opportunity that will allow the successful candidate real flexibility and support in expanding their research portfolio. We are looking for someone who has teaching and research interests that complement and extend our existing strengths in Biomedical Science (https://www.napier.ac.uk/research-and-innovation/research-search/centres/biomedical-science-research-group).
