Position Focus:
Reporting to the Director of Development and Alumni Affairs, the Associate Director, Development Communications and Alumni Affairs prepares and manages all aspects of the YSD annual magazine and biannual digital newsletters. The Associate Director provides high level writing, editing, and proofreading of a variety of departmental materials, including but not limited to stewardship letters, gift proposals, grants, biographies, direct mail and email communications and reports. In addition, the Associate Director conducts accurate and thorough research on donors, gift recipients, alumni and others to prepare reports, briefings and targeted communications for and about the School.

Essential Duties
1. Serves as Managing Editor of School’s annual magazine and biannual newsletter. 2. Serves as School’s liaison to Yale Alumni Association. Represents School at meetings, events and conferences; recruits Yale Alumni Association alumni representatives; serves as staff liaison to School’s class representatives; provides communication support for activities. 3. Manages alumni relationships online and through social media; handles alumni requests. 4. Drafts, writes, edits, and copy edits department’s written materials. 5. Conducts general research of individuals, corporations, foundations, and others as assigned. 6. Supervises and mentors students who work on the annual magazine. 7. Supports School-wide events and opening nights overseen by department. 8. May teach in area of expertise. 9. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as English or communications, and five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Writing and editing experience.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Well-developed Project management, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability editing, proofreading, briefing and report writing.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Ability to perform and prioritize a wide variety of tasks simultaneously; to remain focused in a busy office with frequent interruptions and work effectively and flexibly with a large number of staff, students, interns and others with a commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media and/or digital communications. Familiarity with online and database research.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Highly motivated and energetic, able to serve as a model and mentor to graduate professional students.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Knowledge of Yale University’s organization and programs. Experience managing the production of a publication. Knowledge of HOPPER or similar customer relationship management (CRM) system. Experience or interest in theater.
