Overview:

Applications are sought for a Workshop Technician to work as part of the Mechanical Workshop Team in supporting various teaching and research activities.

The successful candidate will assist in the day-to-day running of the School maker spaces, mechanical workshops, aeronautical and internal combustion laboratories. The role will support teaching and research activities through advising, supervising and demonstrating to students in addition to carrying out work requests around fabrication and modification of instruments, models and materials. The post holder will have solid all-round knowledge and experience of standard workshop tools, working closely with other members of the technical team in order to support a broad range of activities and develop expert knowledge of processes and activities within the School.

This post will report into the Mechanical Workshop Manager who directs the day-to-day running and management of the workshops and maker spaces. The ideal candidate has experience in a similar role in the education sector and/or in a research environment with involvement in varied and wide-ranging projects.

The post is a full-time, permanent appointment and is available from September 2019. Starting salary will be £33,615 to £39,483 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
