Coordinator, Office of International Affairs
The Office of International Affairs (OIA) was established in 2011, with a mandate to create a centralized resource to encourage and coordinate Stanford’s international activities. The office’s mission is to help faculty and students maximize global opportunities that enrich research and learning, and to broaden the impact of both.
We develop strategy and communications infrastructure so that Stanford faculty, students, and staff have access to dynamic and comprehensive information that is relevant to their global research and education.
The Office of International Affairs currently has four strategic goals that the Coordinator will actively support:
- To provide a strategic vision for new international activities, while establishing and reinforcing project management norms for cross-functional administrative teams
- To develop a more comprehensive understanding of Stanford’s global activities so that faculty and students can leverage existing resources and relationships to expand their international research, teaching, and learning
- To expand the office’s “Faculty International Research Exploration Fund.” The purpose of this fund is to help faculty scale-up “proof-of-concept” collaborations with new international partners
- To develop web applications, websites, and processes for international activities that reduce administrative burden, improve mentorship, and increase transparency and accessibility to new international opportunities for faculty and students
Administer and support the 4 above-mentioned goals of the Office of International Affairs under general supervision.
- Design and independently implement projects that advance the office’s four strategic goals.
- Act as product owner for person-to-person and/or online products or services.
- Collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the office.
- Analyze and interpret policies; develop, revise and implement procedures for the office.
- Represent the Office of International Affairs vis-a-vis other academic and administrative units. May also represent OIA to external constituencies.
- Organize and/or participate in outreach activities that may include communications, events, training, and/or conferences. May participate in development of budgets or oversee budgets and monitor and approve expenditures.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience working on international projects, including working or studying abroad.
- Master’s degree in international relations or other international fields preferred
Knowledge, Skills / Attitudes and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize the most important work based upon the needs of own projects and team goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and comfort with ambiguity.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including stakeholder engagement and management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to routinely and independently exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
- Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant subject matter knowledge.
- Familiarity with Agile methodology and principles of Human-Centered Design a plus. (Training in these areas will be provided) See our “Design Principles” to learn more about our approach.
- Experience with project management and collaboration tools a plus (Slack, Jira, Google drive, Box)
Certifications and Licenses:
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally use a telephone.
- Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.
