Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to provide programme support and coordination for Functional Skills across two subject areas English and maths. Your subject speciality will be in supporting Functional Skills Level 1 and 2 maths whilst coordinating Functional Skills English Language Support for Levels 1 and 2. You may carry out  some group and individual tutorial sessions via web conferencing software.

Job Background

The job will sit within the English Language Service and work across BPP as part of the Education Services family. The Service has four main areas of responsibility: Pre-Sessional English provision, In-sessional English provision, Functional skills (English and Maths) support and English Language Testing.  The role will sit within Functional Skills programme.

Full Description

  • To quality assure the English and Maths functional skills programme
  • Deliver some learning and assessment support for maths via web conferencing software to groups of learners as well as individuals
  • Coordinate and manage the English language and maths support with freelance tutors
  • Develop teaching and learning support materials where necessary
  • Act as a point of contact for programme queries and offer excellent customer service and issue resolution for internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide timely communication and high quality support to all relevant stakeholders
  • To effectively and accurately collate, manage and provide regular reports on  student data
  • Use and interpret data to track and support learner feedback and engagement
  • Provide accurate record keeping in all areas of work
  • Liaison, coordination and communication between internal departments and external stakeholders as necessary
  • Supporting the process of enrolling learners onto appropriate programmes and set up and delivery of assessments where necessary
  • Other activities as and when required

 Knowledge, experience and skills required


  • Educated to degree-level
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Functional Skills or GCSE (or equivalent) Maths teaching experience
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to manage problems and find appropriate solutions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Excellent IT Skills experience working with Word, Databases, conference/web software, Virtual Learning Platforms, high degree of excel proficiency
  • Comfortable collecting, managing and reporting in large quantities of data
  • Ability to take on and learn new IT systems
  • Proactive in driving Learner engagement and developing relationships with Learners to promote engagement
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to understand and adhere to policy and compliance standards
  • Adaptable working style
  • Enjoy a busy, varied, changeable and fast paced environment


  • Prior administrative experience
  • Experience of working alongside and communicating with varied and international stakeholders
