Position Focus:

The Research Coordinator will be responsible for all recruitment, enrollment and assessment activities at Yale New Haven Hospital for an observational study investigating the use of a mobile patient-centered health platform (Yale’s HUGO) to identify patients at risk of unintended prolonged opioid use. The Research Coordinator will prepare and maintain all necessary documentation for the Yale IRB. The individual will screen potential subjects for eligibility through medical record review in EPIC, approach eligible subjects and administer informed consent. The Research Coordinator will collect data from patients and send this data to the central study coordinating center. The Research Coordinator will also instruct participants in uploading and using the HUGO platform, and will be the participants’ first point-of-contact for troubleshooting issues that may arise with using the platform. The Research Coordinator will liaise and facilitate communication with other study sites, and will participate in scheduled team meetings.

Essential Duties

  1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments.
  2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports.
  3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities.
  4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures.
  5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff.
  6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities.

Required Education and Experience

Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Ability to reliably produce accurate work, work independently, effectively and efficiently under pressure, as well as ability to multi-task, juggling competing research demands with limited supervision.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to oversee and coordinate research projects. Ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team and independently. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Intermediate or higher ability with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.Knowledge of online meeting platforms, such as Zoom.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

2+ years experience working in human subjects research, preferably in the hospital setting. BA/BS or Master’s degree in health field, experience with recruitment of hospitalized patients. Experience with EPIC. Experience in HUGO platform.
