An immediate start is available for a Learning Advisor who specialises in the area of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D). The role is based at Cairns campus on a full time, fixed term basis till 13th December 2019 with the possibility of an extension

What you can accomplish in the role

The Learning Advisor providessystematic, integrated language and learning support through a team-based environment with academic and support staff, and assistsstudentsto develop academic literacies and/or numeracy consistent with the guidelines of the Association for Academic Language and Learning (AALL).

Thisis an opportunity to build relationships with key stakeholders by working collegially with Associate Deans, Learning and Teaching, Course Coordinators, Academics and Academic Servicesteamsto improve the preparedness and success of studentsin their chosen area of study. You will also provide specialist advice to studentsin a designated field that could include maths and/or science; English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D); academic literacies; and numeracy development.

What you will bring to the role

In addition to your progresstowards a post-graduate qualification in Education, you also possess a recognised qualification in the area of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) and extensive experience in a Learning Advisor or Academic Development position.

Your track record of developing, leading and evaluating educational programs, with evidence of positive outcomesfor diverse learners will be paramount to delivering outcomes. To ensure your successin thisrole, it is essential to have an understanding of current policy imperativesin Higher Education and their relevance to a Learning Advisor role in academic development, including ability to engage in a scholarly manner with professional associations.
