Applications are sought for an Bioinformatician to lead the bioinformatics components towards the analysis of investigating the immune environment of keratinocyte skin cancer progression with the aims to develop risk prediction and targeted prevention. This project is funded by Barts Charity for three years, focusing on the disease progression from actinic keratoses (AK), UV-induced pre-malignant skin lesions to invasive cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCC). We will be utilising RNA-seq, targeted sequencing, mass cytometry and single-cell RNA-seq to derive a robust immune panel and score to predict AK progression to cSCC. The Bioinformatician in this post will be leading the data analyses, and driving the scientific outcome. Our work will include: (1) systematic analysis of existing transcriptomic datasets and newly generated single-cell data to identify novel immune markers associated with AK progression; (2) validation and derivation of a robust immune panel/score to predict AK progression in extended cohort using targeted gene expression; (3) correlation of immune cell signatures with genomic alterations derived from matched exome-seq data. The post will be based in the Centre for Molecular Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London.
Essential requirements for this post include a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genetics, Genomics or a relevant discipline. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and experience in large-scale data analysis, especially next-generation sequencing data sets. Experience in single-cell RNA-seq analysis, and/or in data integration and modeling is much desired. A demonstrated ability to communicate well, work within a team and maintain good laboratory records are also essential.
The post is full time for 36 months starting from 1st October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be £37,411 - £39,483 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
