Job Summary

The microPublication project ( seeks a full-stack developer to assist in creation of a novel scientific publishing platform. The individual will work with existing open source computer code as well as develop new software and will be involved in all computational aspects of the project.

Job Duties

  1. Works closely with editors at micropublication Biology ( and curators at the Alliance of Genome Resources ( to develop a publication platform in collaboration with the coko foundation open source publication components. (45%)
  2. Develop submission forms that help authors makes as much knowledge computable as is feasible (40%)
  3. Generalize software components to handle micropublications outside of biology (5%)
  4. Documents software and makes it public. (5%)
  5. Supervise summer students on programming tasks (5%)

Basic Qualifications

  • MS in computer science or engineering
  • Documented experience in software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in computer science or engineering
  • Demonstrated experience with React/Node JS
  • Basic familiarity with Docker and container-based deployments
  • Insist on SCM (via Git and Github)
  • Passionate about issue tracking
  • Basic web design skills
  • Clear and responsive communication skills via Slack, email, and even voice
  • Ability to work independently with limited oversight
