Position overview

The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) leads intellectual engagement with the Asia-Pacific region through research, education and contributions to public debate, and seeks to set the international standard for scholarship concerning the region.

Crawford School of Public Policy is one of four schools within CAP and one of the world's leading public policy schools, serving and influencing Australia, Asia and the Pacific through advanced policy research and professional education.

The Development Policy Centre is a research centre at Crawford School. We conduct research and promote discussion in three areas: Australian aid effectiveness, development in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific, and global development policy.

The University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) is PNG’s premier university and the School of Business and Public Policy is PNG’s leading and/or only institution for the study of economics, finance, accounting, business, public policy, strategic management, human resource management, and tourism.

Crawford School and the UPNG School of Business and Public Policy have been in partnership, supported by Australian Aid, to build capacity in teaching and research of economics and public policy. As part of this program, we wish to hire an academic specialising in public policy and related disciplines. This opportunity is being offered as a fixed term appointment until the end of 2020, with the possibility of extension subject to funding and performance.

The successful candidate will be an academic (and employee) of The Australian National University. They will be based at the School of Business and Public Policy, UPNG, residing in Port Moresby. A competitive remuneration package is available, including accommodation allowances and health insurance. Some research funding is also available. The academics’ accommodation and security needs will be looked after by Abt Associates, a managing contractor under the Australian aid program. Travel to and research periods at ANU are also budgeted for. This is an opportunity to have an impact and make a difference. Queries from potentially interested candidates are encouraged by email or phone.

Increasing the representation of women and academics from culturally or linguistically diverse backgrounds is a strategic priority for Crawford School. We strongly encourage applications from these groups.
