Overview:

We seek a Research Technician to join a 60-strong research team of scientists, clinicians and clinical trial staff dedicated to Inflammation and Rheumatology Research at the Centre for Experimental Medicine & Rheumatology (EMR) led by Professor Costantino Pitzalis. EMR opened in May 2007 and the Centre is focused on the development of innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches to inflammatory and degenerative arthropathies, particularly rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. The Centre offers refurbished laboratories, cutting edge facilities and is located in the heart of the City of London in close proximity to the Barbican Arts and Music Centre.  

Candidates should have a BSc or BS Degree and the main duties of the position will include:

  1. Collection, processing, storage & databasing of human synovial tissue samples & biospecimens.
  2. To assist in the execution of quality assurance assessments/audits, collect & analyse data. 
  3. Histological/Immunohistochemical characterisation & imaging of synovial tissues.
  4. Extraction of nucleic acid (RNA & DNA) from synovial tissues and blood specimens.
  5. Assistance with routine gene expression profiling, collect & analyse data.
  6. Providing support to collaborative projects
  7. Providing support for the lb-side management of academic/clinical/collaborative studies

Candidates should also have computer literacy, including word processing, Excel and literature searches, good interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact positively with project co-workers to establish a daily work routine.

The candidate will be primarily based at the WHRI Charterhouse Square, although the post holder may be required to move to another of the School’s sites should the need arise. The post holder may also be required to carry out duties on other College/Hospital sites.

The post is full time and on a fixed term 12-month contract. The starting salary will be in the range of £27,251 - £33,615 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.  Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loan and family friendly working.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
