Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Early Imperial Chinese History and Culture in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 497157), to commence on September 1, 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Direct tenure may be offered to an outstanding candidate.

The School values a strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Chinese History or related areas. They should pursue an active agenda of research and publication that can complement and reinforce the Programme’s strengths in the broad spectrum of Chinese historical and cultural studies. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects. The successful candidate should have native or near-native fluency in both Chinese and English, and be able to develop and conduct courses in early imperial Chinese history.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
