Overview:

A fixed term, part-time (0.4 FTE for 9 months in the first instance) Postdoctoral Research Assistant role is available at the School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London.

The Postdoctoral Research Assistant will work with Dr. Manuela Perrotta and her research team on the Wellcome Trust funded research enrichment – public engagement project “Remaking the Human Body: Biomedical Imaging Technologies, Professional and Lay Visions”.

Under the general guidance of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Manuela Perrotta), the post holder will be responsible primarily for the realisation and enrichment of a programme of activities designed to stimulate debate and create dialogue between professionals and non-professionals. The successful applicant, in collaboration with the research team, will be responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating the programme of public engagement. They will maintain and build upon a network of stakeholders involved in the project and will liaise with the Centre for Public Engagement at Queen Mary. They will also participate in data collection, analysis and dissemination; and contributing to administrative activities for this project.

The successful candidate will have completed a PhD (or have a doctorate under examination) in a relevant social science subject (Sociology/Anthropology of Medicine, Science and Technology Studies, or a related field) or have equivalent research experience. We seek an outstanding interdisciplinary researcher, with experience in conducting qualitative research, and ideally of undertaking case studies in the field of IVF. To undertake this role, they will have a full understanding of the public debate on IVF in the UK, including knowledge of the debate on the add-ons controversy. They will have experience of public engagement activities in the field and of managing projects and events. They will have excellent communication skills including demonstrable, well-developed abilities and judgment in using social media. They will be highly self-motivated, able to work alone and in collaboration with others, and capable of working with people at all levels of seniority.

The post is a part-time (0.4 FTE), fixed term appointment for 9 months, with the possibility of extension and an expected start date of October 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be in the range of £ 33,615 - £ 35,459 per annum (pro rata), inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro rata), pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required, this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
