The origin of multicellularity

A postdoctoral research associate position in theoretical biology is available to work with Professor Corina Tarnita at Princeton University (Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology) on projects exploring the origin of multicellularity and the organization of early/simple multicellular groups. We will take a bottom-up approach to the origin of multicellularity (as formulated in https://www.pnas.org/content/114/42/11018): we will focus on the ecology and development of the solitary ancestor and explore the possible emergent multicellular life cycles and the rudimentary self-organization of the simplest early groups, with a focus on cell differentiation and collective dynamics. The work will be primarily theoretical but there will be close collaboration with experimentalists. The postdoctoral researcher will be actively involved in determining and shaping the specific project(s) together with the PI.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented individual to join this effort. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong quantitative training, computing skills, and a deep interest in biology. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on satisfactory performance.
