Department of Visual Studies

The Department of Visual Studies (VS) offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree programme centred on three core subjects: Aesthetics, Art History and Film Studies. Courses in these theoretical and historical areas are supplemented with studio courses, internships, service-learning opportunities and other co-curricular activities. We admit about 30 undergraduate majors and a small number of M.Phil. and Ph.D. students per academic year. To facilitate our programme development and other new initiatives related to Curating, the VS Department invites applications for the fixed-term, postdoctoral position of Research Assistant Professor of Museum Studies. The successful candidate who will enjoy a reduced teaching load is required to generate research output with international impact, obtain competitive research grants and excel in knowledge transfer activities. He/she is also required to supervise research and curatorial projects, offer professional training and provide services at various levels within the University. General Requirements

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Museum Studies, Curatorial Studies or a relevant discipline, excellent track record of research and strong commitment to research/knowledge transfer and related activities. Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research. Candidates are required to provide information about their research records including awards of research grant and evidence of high-quality teaching. Applicants who have engaged in important curatorial projects or possessed related professional experience in museum work are of particular interest.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Initial appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of up to three years. Subject to the University requirements, review of appointee’s performance and mutual agreement, re-appointments may be made on fixed term contracts for periods of normally up to three years.
