Brief Description

To provide high quality research support and undertake internationally competitive research aimed at publication thereby contributing to the academic and research mission of the University. Ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication.

Strategic Responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities

Candidate must be a knowledgeable expert in the following conceptual areas:

1. mass media theory specifically relating to digital technologies, skills, and digital capital
2. sociological aspects of inclusion/exclusion in the use of digital technologies,
3. identification and measurement of skill(s) for use of digital technologies,
4. identification and measurement of social outcome measures for use of digital technologies,
5. identification and measurement of digital capital.

Candidate must be proficient at the following social science methodologies:

1. Development of survey questionnaires,
2. Administration (deployment) of questionnaires,
3. Management quantitative survey databases,
4. Appropriate parametric and non-parametric statistical analysis methodologies, such as regression analysis, tests of non-additivity, tests of non-linearity, logistic regression, path analysis, factor analysis, and residual analysis (“goodness of fit”).
5. Proficiency in the use of SPSS statistical software.

The candidate must also possess the following qualities:

1. Ability provide high quality research support and to assist in internationally competitive research,
2. Ability to collaborate in publication of high-impact academic journal articles,
3. Ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication,
4. Ability to work in a team.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Candidate will assist in supervising Masters of PhD student research assistant(s) for the project.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

• PhD Degree in Communications, Media Studies, Digital Sociology, or Related Field

Required Experience

• Completion of PhD with some research experience in the area of digital divide studies, and excellent potential for research productivity.
