Job Summary

This position will serve as a Senior Level System Administrator within the IMSS Academic Computing group. Primary responsibilities will include the deployment and support of public and private cloud in addition to central infrastructure. This position will also deploy and support a broad array of campus IT systems for a wide variety of campus customers.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with a Team Lead in the design, deployment, and continued operations of central infrastructure: virtualization, public and private cloud, configuration management, etc.
  • Migrate distributed services and data (internal and customer) to central infrastructure and public cloud; merge and retire duplicate systems
  • Collaborate with a Team Lead in the design, deployment and continued operations of customer systems and services
  • Work with IMSS staff and various campus groups to identify functional and technical requirements
  • Participate in an on-call team rotation for off-hours support. Participate in scheduled off-hours maintenance windows. Some occasional off-hours work is required
  • Participate in knowledge sharing exercises, new technology evaluations and best practices reviews with other IMSS staff; assist with system documentation and quality control initiatives
  • Create and design standard operating procedures for existing and emerging technologies

Basic Qualifications

  • 7 years’ experience in deploying and maintaining enterprise-level Linux solutions is required
  • 5 years’ experience with VMware, AWS, and Enterprise Linux is required
  • Intermediate to advanced skills deploying and maintaining enterprise-level configuration management solutions. Experience with Salt and Terraform is preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in deploying and maintaining enterprise-level databases. Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB strongly preferred
  • Intermediate experience with IAAS, SAAS, and Public Cloud (AWS, GCE, O365, Box, etc.)
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in deploying, securing, troubleshooting, tuning and maintaining enterprise-level systems
  • Strong networking knowledge and skills (especially TCP/IP, UDP & DNS) are required
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be highly professional, focused on quality, customer service oriented, and have excellent in-person support demeanor for users of all skill levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing web and application servers, directory services, DNS servers, file and print servers, network load balancers and firewalls, public cloud
  • Experience using enterprise class monitoring and alerting solutions (SiteScope, Nagios, Cacti, SNMP, Dell OpenManage, etc.)
  • Experience using scripting languages for system administration
  • Relevant professional and technical certifications (AWS, VMware, Red Hat, etc.)
  • Experience with P2V and V2V migrations
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
