Presenting more than 150 performances annually, Stanford Live is the performing arts presenter at Stanford University and manager of Bing Concert Hall and Frost Amphitheater. Stanford Live uses a variety of performance venues both on and off campus.
The Audio-Video Manager, working under limited supervisor, serves as the lead audio and video engineer for all events and projects, coordinating with guest engineers and designers as necessary. This position maintains all AV infrastructure and equipment; works with outside vendors to rent/purchase equipment and coordinates over-hire labor as needed to assist with AV load-ins, performances, and maintenance calls. This position reports to the Production Manager and may provide additional support to the Director of Production, Director of Operations, and/or the Executive Director.
- Serve as lead audio engineer on all events and projects using independent judgement and facilitate the experience of guest engineers or artist crews when appropriate. Perform or oversee live sound, webcast/broadcast mixing, and archival/recording operations as needed for each event.
- Serve as the audio and recording contact for the Department of Music regarding the technical needs of student and faculty users of the concert hall.
- Maintain positive and productive relationships with outside vendors, including leveraging/negotiating favorable arrangements for our concert hall whenever possible.
- Assist with the load-in of staging, lighting, backline, video, and audio for performances as needed. Periodically serve as Stage Manager for certain performances, as appropriate.
- Oversee and maintain infrastructure and audio video equipment. Troubleshoot as necessary to resolve any audio video related issues. Perform regular maintenance and tuning of the audio video systems during project and maintenance periods.
- Assist other concert hall staff with general venue and equipment maintenance and inventory activities, as assigned.
- Work with the production team to staff the over hire crew in order to meet the production requirements. This includes vetting/training new over hire staff, managing and directing a crew of over hires for show needs, and communicating schedules appropriately.
- Assist marketing, programming and engagement departments with special audio-related projects, archival recordings, and on-site video shoots as needed and scheduled around concert hall duties.
- Operates video equipment when needed and coordinates with over-hire video engineers when production requirements dictate.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required or assigned, including audio video support for special projects.
- Works nights and weekends in accordance with venue schedule.
- Keeps current with industry trends in systems and best practices to accommodate the needs and requirements of our artist.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred;
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in audio video engineering, or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Digital audio distribution including AES/EBU and Dante.
- Maintaining analog audio systems including patchbays.
- Transfer function FFT spectral/phase analysis such as SMAART or SIMM.
- Deploying large sound reinforcement systems including basic rigging and line array flying.
- Concert audio system design including coverage patterns, low frequency control and tuning.
- 3 phase AC distribution including load balancing and isolated/single point grounding systems.
- Familiarity with Crestron/AMX automation systems.
- Expert level experience with all mixer models from Yamaha particularly the CL/QL series.
- Experience with DigiCo SD series mixers
- Experience with d&b ArrayCalc and R1
- UHF band wireless microphones and mitigation of intermodulation and multi-pathing.
- Digital Party-Line communications systems such as Clearcom, Reidel, RTS, HME.
- All types of microphones including polar patterns and their proper utilization.
- Live audio/video sequencing/triggering such as QLab.
- Detailed knowledge of musical instruments specifically western symphonic instruments.
- Strong events planning, project management, administrative and organizational abilities required.
- Demonstrable ability to consistently meet deadlines with high accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-through on all assigned tasks. Must adroitly handle many tasks simultaneously in a competent, organized and unflappable manner.
- Ability to work with artists, agents and managers in sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- General proficiency in all major areas of concert production (stage management, backline, lighting, video, general venue operations).
- Excellent verbal skills necessary, as well as ability to communicate with extreme diplomacy, professionalism, and graciousness.
- Proficiency in Word and Excel required. Experience with FinalCut, Photoshop, or other Adobe products a plus.
- Understanding of accounting, budgeting and financial issues and ability to track and monitor expenses related to the performances and hall operations.
- Demonstrable resilience and ability to handle long hours and fast pace with a positive attitude.
- Demonstrate flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Must have access to reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and good driving record.
- Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
- Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally use a telephone.
- Must also be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short distances.
