PROCUREMENT AND CONTRACT SPECIALIST, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to oversee the procurement of the equipment, materials, and services required to carry out the  SPARC project.  This includes large-scale electrical and cryogenic equipment, large-scale forgings and machined parts, and specialized test equipment. Duties include working with PSFC technical staff during the entire engineering process, providing procurement insight from the design through the implementation phases; identifying, screening, and developing relationships with vendors; issuing tenders and participating in bid reviews; working with procurement office to establish the preferred contract type for a particular procurement (cost plus fixed fee, fix price, time and materials, etc.); identifying appropriate deliverables, scheduling milestones and payment schedule consistent with contract type, and communicating these clearly to vendors; tracking, handling, and documenting shipments/services; and tracking--with PSFC fiscal office--vendor progress on contracts, with attention to schedule/milestone performance, potential delays or cost overruns, and potential non-compliance with terms and conditions of contract.

The PSFC is an internationally recognized facility at the forefront of plasma physics and fusion energy research.  It recently announced an accelerated pathway to fusion energy that is based on the development and demonstration of the world’s highest performing superconducting fusion magnets and the first net-energy fusion device - the SPARC tokamak.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree; at least three years’ direct/related experience; strong organizational skills; attention to detail; track record of effectively managing and tracking many parallel tasks; ability to communicate clearly in person, by telephone, and via email; and proficiency with productivity software (e.g., Word, Excel, email) and ability to rapidly learn MIT and PSFC procurement procedures, software, and systems.  Engineering or technical degree desirable.  Job #17792-9
