Job Details

Applications are invited for a Research Associate with expertise in Design Research. The successful candidate with work on EPSRC TIPS project, TAPESTRY: Trust, Authentication and Privacy over a De Centralised Social Registry, as part of the UKRI Digital Economy programme.  Further details of the project are available here: http://bit.ly/1S4VLxG.

The successful candidate will be based in the School of Design’s vibrant research community working alongside Dr Jo Briggs https://researchportal.northumbria.ac.uk/en/researchers/jo-briggs(9c06193d-6562-415e-875e-ea995dd84741).html) and will have proven skills to complement existing world-leading expertise at Northumbria across Design and Human-Computer Interaction.

The role may be of interest to design researchers interested in examining approaches to ‘designing for trust’ within a responsible AI context using the TAPESTRY prototype developed in partnership with the Universities of Surrey and Dundee. TAPESTRY aims to support people with lower levels of digital literacies to connect more safely online, focusing on use-cases relating to e-health, hacking and online dating.

The successful candidate will develop and evaluate design methods informed by the work undertaken by research partners in social psychology at the University of Dundee around the establishment of trust in online contexts and have expertise in creative qualitative co-design and participatory workshop approaches in cross-sectoral contexts. Creative narrative and video production skills would be advantageous.

The vacancy is available on either a full or part time basis commencing in autumn 2019 and may involve travel to undertake research and disseminate findings.
