About Strategy & Culture

The Strategy and Culture portfolio within the Chancellery comprises seven teams who lead the development of strategy and its integration and implementation, expert advice and governance, analysis and insight in relation to public policy, formulation and leadership of the marketing and communications strategy, HR strategy and implementation of the new innovation precinct, Melbourne Connect.

About the role

Reporting to the Portfolio Director – Strategy & Culture and working under the general direction of the University of Melbourne Diversity & Inclusion Steering Committee the incumbent will be empowered to work across the University and seek guidance and direction on complex projects or issues from the Executive Director HR, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and the Vice-President Strategy & Culture as required.

The Project Lead will support the work of the Steering Committee in implementing the University’s approved vision and strategic direction for diversity and inclusion through co-designing and operationalising the long-term roadmap of initiatives that will deliver a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture. The Project Lead will be expected to advocate for change using data and evidence and identify specific priorities that embed a culture of inclusion into organisational practice.

Working closely with other team members within the University HR community and the Provost’s team in Chancellery and across the University, the incumbent will implement and influence a diverse portfolio of programs and processes developed by the D&I Steering Committee, provide research, analysis and strategic advice to the D&I Steering Committee and be responsible for the coordination and delivery of programs and projects across the University in aid of our Diversity & Inclusion strategy and key goals.

About you

The appointee will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience ( Master's degree preferred)
  • A minimum of 7-10 years of work experience; including experience in facilitating conversations about identity and engaging difference.
  • Demonstrated success and experience implementing D&I programs and initiatives in a complex, multi-faceted organisation.
  • Advanced written communication skills, capable of distilling ideas and communicating these persuasively.
  • Advanced research skills, proficient at undertaking literature reviews, synthesising perspectives and making recommendations to guide decision making.
  • Established project management skills, particularly for the design and implementation of initiatives and programs.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build constructive relationships, consult with stakeholders and work through influence.
  • A sound understanding of university policy, strategy and priorities.
  • Strong capacity to frame and solve problems with a team and autonomously.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work to multiple deadlines whilst managing multiple constituencies and multiple tasks.
