About the opportunity

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified persons for appointment to a conjoint position between the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Centre for Disability Studies. 

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest faculty in the University, and the Sydney Medical School is one of seven schools within the faculty. The school is one of the highest rated education and research institutions in the Asia-Pacific region, working to improve human health and welfare through education, research and the provision of healthcare. The school is dedicated to developing caring, clinically outstanding, research-capable and globally aware graduates who have the capabilities to become leaders in medicine, public health and research.

The Centre for Disability Studies (CDS) is a stand-alone non-profit organisation, in operation since 1997. The centre’s mission is to create and disseminate knowledge that improves the lives of people with disability. The focus at CDS is on designing and developing research, teaching and workforce development initiatives, and clinical practice that informs disability policy and evidence-based practice.

The position of Executive Director, CDS, reports to the CDS Board of Directors and leads, supports, coordinates and provides oversight and accountability for CDS initiatives in education and training, research and innovation, health, clinical services, and disability access. The central focus of the Executive Director role is on ensuring the delivery by CDS of education, research and clinical services in the disability sector.

The successful applicant will also hold a conjoint academic position of Associate Professor or Professor of Disability Studies, which will be held concurrently with the position of Executive Director, CDS.  The conjoint position sits within the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Medicine and Health and reports to the Head of School and Dean, Sydney Medical School.  The successful applicant will be expected to undertake teaching, research, academic and PhD supervisory duties.

Term and remuneration

The appointment term is for 5 years and may be renewed for a further period subject to need, performance and the availability of funds. The employment relationship of the incumbent to this position is with the Centre for Disability Studies Ltd. There is no employment relationship with or employment entitlements from the University of Sydney. The Associate Professor or Professor will be appointed by the CDS Ltd on pay scales commensurate with University scales for the relevant academic position.
