Centre of the Cell is the first science education centre of its kind to be located inside a working biomedical laboratory, in the Blizard Institute. The Centre is located in Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets, East London.
Applications are invited for the post of Learning & Outreach Officer at the Centre of the Cell. The postholder will be responsible for the development and delivery of a workshop on ‘Air Pollution’, to be delivered to primary school children in Cental London and Luton. This will be the second year of a multi-year study investigating the impact of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) on children’s respiratory health. A key element of this project is the interactive education workshop which accompanies research team visits to participating schools in central London and Luton. The educational sessions are coordinated by Centre of the Cell, in collaboration with the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health.
Candidates must have a degree in a science subject or relevant appropriate experience, have experience working in a public facing role, experience of developing educational resources, be able to organise a varied workload, and communicate effectively with a diverse range of organisations, groups and individuals. Excellent presentation and communications skills are essential. Candidates must be willing to be flexible on hours of work on a regular basis.
The post is full-time, fixed term appointment for 11 months, with an expected start date of October 2019 or soon after. Starting salary will be £27,994 inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
