Imperial College Research Fellowships 

Imperial College London is delighted to invite applications for the Imperial College Research Fellowship scheme, to give outstanding early-career researchers an opportunity to develop independent research programmes. 

We will be awarding up to 20 fellowships, to start between August and December 2020.  Each one offers four years funding (stipend in the range of £37,486 per annum (2018/19 figures), plus a generous contribution to research expenses).  Fellowships are designed to provide freedom to focus on research: there are no obligatory teaching or administrative duties.  Applicants will be encouraged to apply for additional sources of funding to allow them to strengthen their research programme.

Proposals will be considered in all research areas active at Imperial College London. Multidisciplinary projects are welcomed as are collaborations with The Francis Crick Institute In addition, AstraZeneca and Imperial will be awarding up to 2 fellowships. For more information, see


Before applying, you will need to identify an Imperial academic staff member to act as your sponsor who will provide laboratory space, facilities and mentorship for the tenure of the fellowship. 

You may be from the UK or abroad and will be normally expected to have no more than 4 years post-doctoral research experience in an academic environment at the time of application. It is anticipated that you would be at the early stages of your research career and be able to demonstrate your future potential to establish research independence. 

Proposals will be judged primarily on the basis of scientific merit, your track record and your potential for development of an independent research programme.
