Job Purpose

This role is a 50:50 split between general faculty duties (teaching, module leadership and marking) and faculty management. The post holder will be a member of the technology faculty team with additional management responsibilities to ensure that all technology programmes are staffed appropriately and that faculty receive appropriate leadership, management and support to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

Working as part of a faculty team, you will support the resource planning and workload management in the School to ensure that all faculty have an appropriate workload and that both short- and long-term resource needs are planned and managed. You will be a role model for faculty and combine the management role with your own academic activities as required.

Key Responsibilities

Working as part of the Faculty Management team, you will be responsible for

  • Contributing to a clear staff management and communication structure within the school and being a leading faculty member
  • The day to day management of a group of faculty, to include appraisals, reviews and development plans in liaison with the relevant Head of Programme, Head of training and Head of Quality Assurance
  • The management of Faculty KPIs (e.g. tutor grades and pass rates) to a high standard, putting in support and remedial action where needed
  • Undertaking appropriate management and compliance observations
  • Leading the Faculty stream in respect of educational best practice – driving knowledge sharing, technical discussions and support for new faculty and associates

Work activities

  • Managing a group of faculty direct reports, ensuring staffing issues are clearly communicated, appraisals and quarterly reviews are carried out, performance issues are properly managed and all BS Faculty have development plans in place
  • Developing staff to enable the business to deliver scheduled courses to meet the high standards BPP’s students expect
  • Assisting in the development of a strategic long term plan to help meet the resource needs of the business
  • Quality assurance – regular review of student feedback (grades and comments) in relation to faculty reports, dissemination of this information to reports and the Deputy Dean, and taking appropriate action as required
  • Assisting with the completion and maintenance of faculty workload breakdowns and helping to identify discipline or ‘activity gaps’ in the Business School
  • Working with the Resource Planning team in respect of their range of duties – for example identifying faculty training needs and delivering as appropriate, assessment of overall Faculty workloads, assisting with recruitment activity
  • Approval of holidays requests by direct reports, in conjunction with the Resource Planning team
  • Assisting in the organisation and delivery of faculty meetings and training events
  • Attendance at recruitment assessment days for freelance faculty staff and interviewing for permanent staff, assisting and providing significant input on recruitment decisions
  • Liaison with HR where required in specific cases
  • Input into faculty-related policy decisions and contractual issues
  • Undertake academic activities appropriate to the level of responsibility of the role
  • Any other duties commensurate with the role
