About the role

  • $130,216-171,120 plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
  • Convertible tenure contract
  • Full-time (35 hours per week)

We seek an academic who aspires to play a leading role in shaping the future of the Graduate Program in Urban Development & Design. The program aims to give a critical design dimension to urban development in terms of the overarching role of cities as engines of economic growth and change, and the specific role of property development in the ‘circuit of capital’, the processes of investment and disinvestment in the fixed capital of the built environment.

The person we seek will have superior expertise in urban design and background in architecture. They will advance the field of urban development and design, assist in teaching at the graduate level, sustain their own research or education focussed activities, and foster interdisciplinary engagement.

This opening presents a high performing academic with an excellent opportunity to develop their leadership, research and teaching skills within a highly regarded interdisciplinary design Faculty, to forge international networks and to make substantial contributions to the academic excellence at UNSW.

The appointee will be expected to:

  • Bring superior expertise in urban design to build on the development and delivery of an interdisciplinary, studio-based Masters program
  • Support and contribute to excellence and innovation in the design and delivery of teaching and learning
  • Ensure that programs are designed in accordance with the Program Design Procedure and the principles of the Integrated Curriculum Framework (ICF).
  • Contribute to internal and external activities relating to the administration and development of the discipline.
  • Verify continuing compliance with the requirements of the Higher Education standards framework, including programs designed in collaboration with another party or designed to be delivered by an approved UNSW Third party provider.
  • Guide academic staff to strengthen the interdisciplinary alliances and activity within the faculty and the broader UNSW community in the form of joint degree programs
  • Contribute to and lead research projects and achieve a high-level of quality research productivity and attract and supervise research students
  • Support and contribute to activities that forge and/or sustain relationships with external organisations such as local design practices, the Group of Eight and the PLUS Alliance, Universitas21, and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities.
  • Encourage equity and diversity in all aspects of university life
