The University of Bristol has introduced a whole-institution approach to pastoral care and support for its students. This includes major new investments in support for student wellbeing in academic schools and central services, such as our specialist Students’ Health and Counselling Services. In addition, the University is also creating a sector-leading support model for students living in University residences. This is in response to increasing student numbers, greater diversity in the student body, and more complex student wellbeing issues. Residences currently consists of circa 6,800 University allocated student bed spaces across the city and this figure is set to rise significantly over the coming 3-5 years.

Further information on student support in residences can be found at https://www.bristol.ac.uk/students/wellbeing/student-life/review-of-supp...

There are three Student Residential Villages, each of which will have a Head of Residential Life who will oversee the day to day operation of the local Residential Life Service. This will include enhancing support for student transition into higher education, inclusive community building, and proactive advice and support for students experiencing difficulties.

The role will also support the embedding of student wellbeing skills development within the broader Residential Life programme which will be delivered in partnership with student residents, Bristol SU, the Division of Sport, Exercise and Health, and other University colleagues. In addition, the Head of Residential Life will contribute to the strategic development of the wider Residential Life Service through providing specialist and professional advice, direction and input across the range of activities of the service and being responsible for managing a diverse team and resources.

Ideally with experience and knowledge of the work practices, processes and procedures relevant to supporting student wellbeing and residential life you will also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the various approaches available as well as their relevant professional, legal and regulatory requirements. You will be a proven manager and communicator with the ability to build relationships and influence at all levels as well as have the tact and diplomacy to manage sensitive situations effectively. Project and change management experience would also be beneficial.

The post requires the willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule which will include attendance at evening and weekend events and meetings. Accommodation will be provided as the Head of Residential Life is expected to live on site.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Thursday 1st August 2019. For informal enquiries please contact Ros Elliott ros.elliott@bristol.ac.uk
