Overview:

Queen Mary University of London is a leading UK higher education establishment with a dynamic research policy that aims to expand our involvement in EU and international funded research projects and build on our impressive existing research grant portfolio. The European Unit is a section of the Joint Research Management Office (JRMO) to support academics and researchers across Queen Mary University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust.

The EU Unit provides a comprehensive effective and efficient pre and post award support service to meet pre-determined deadlines, support the development and delivery of competitive and high quality research proposals and projects, and ensure compliance with regulations and funder requirements and to assist in the achievement of QMUL’s strategic objectives.

This is a post award financial administration post. It presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual who has some experience of working in a research support role in higher education and interest in financial administration of EU and international funded research projects. The principal duties of the post include: 

  • Providing post award financial administration support to academics and departmental administrative staff to ensure an effective and efficient service is provided from grant agreement to post project completion.
  • Liaising with academics, partners, subcontractors and funders on finance queries and matters arising.
  • Assistance with budget planning and control, the preparation of financial claims, forecasts, invoices, partner payments, audit preparation in compliance with funder requirements and to ensure best practice is adopted.
  • Maintenance of record keeping systems to meet University, funder and audit requirements.
  • Attend, where necessary, partnership meetings and give presentations on financial information where required.

The ideal candidate will have a strong financial background with previous experience of research administration in an HEI environment. They will be highly numerate, and use key software packages including MS Excel and Agresso (or other equivalent software). They will have awareness of European funding programmes including the EU R&D Framework Programmes (particularly Horizon 2020) and other international funding. An excellent communicator, proficient in time management with meticulous attention to detail. They will work well under pressure and on own initiative and have proven organisational skills. This is an ever-changing and challenging environment and we will require someone with a high degree of competency in accounting, numeracy and administrative skills to build on the development of the service and to support any future changes.

The post is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 60 months (5 years). Salary range £33,615 – £39,483 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, access to a pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
