• Full-time at 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
• Continuing (i.e. permanent) position

What You Will Do

Applications are invited for an academic continuing position in Te Kura Mātai Hauora - School of Health Sciences in the subject area of Public Health. The holder of the position will provide major contributions to the delivery of coursework, research supervision, and administrative duties related to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within Health Sciences. Expertise will include at least one of the following areas: community focused health services, health programme design and evaluation, epidemiology, health informatics and/or population health in the areas of nutrition, diverse populations and/or addressing health inequities.

Who You Are

Applicants will have a PhD in in a health discipline consistent with the required expertise noted above and will be a leader in scholarly and research achievements. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake a programme of research in their area of expertise.

An active commitment to continuing professional development, including bicultural professional development, and applying that learning in everyday practice is expected. This includes a commitment to upholding the values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngāi Tūāhuriri, the mana whenua. Ability in te reo Māori me āna tikanga would be an advantage.

For applicants applying at Lecturer level you will be expected to have a doctoral degree, demonstrated expertise in the area/s noted above and show proficiency in its teaching.

You will be active in research and scholarship, and, where appropriate, be involved in applications for funding to support that work. You will be beginning to attract students (and possibly research funding) and developing links nationally and/or internationally. You will be developing a track record of peer reviewed research publications, acquiring peer recognition for your research and scholarly work and making a contribution to the research environment at your university and engaging with potential end-users of your research.

For applicants applying at Senior Lecturer level you will be expected to be an experienced academic staff member. You will have developed your own research and teaching interests and you will be becoming known nationally for your work. You will publish regularly in peer reviewed international journals or other appropriate outlets. Where appropriate you will have evidence of end-user or community interest in your work. You are likely to have edited collections of work or meeting proceedings, and applied for external research funding.

You will have evidence of effective supervision of Master's Thesis and PhD students.

You will also have been part of the organising committees of academic conferences or relevant meetings within a discipline. You should be starting to develop your role as an academic leader in your teaching and/or research speciality.

Te Kura Mātai Hauora - School of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and research activities that respond to the dynamic nature of the health sector and its workforce. These include the undergraduate Bachelor of Health Sciences degree and various population health and clinical endorsements within the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters of Health Sciences. Other postgraduate programmes include Child and Family Psychology, Counselling, Nursing, Sport Science, and Specialist Teaching.

The School offers these exciting research and teaching opportunities through its new home, the Rehua building, a world class facility located in the heart of Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha - University of Canterbury Ilam Campus with modern digital technologies and innovative learning and social spaces that encourage collaboration and multidisciplinary ways of working.
