The Department of Geosciences at Princeton University has an opening for a professional technician in the area of mineralogy appointed at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist or more senior. Duties will include but are not limited to: (1) the verification and characterization of key mineral specimens and groups in the Department's Mineral Collection using advanced analytical techniques including Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction (single-crystal and powder); (2) testing and implementing procedures for use of handheld, portable Raman spectrometer; (3) maintaining on-line mineral database; and (4) developing procedures for proper long-term storage for the collection. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Geosciences, Mineral Sciences, or a related field, although especially qualified individuals with a Master's degree will be considered.

The position is available for one year, with a possibility for renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance.
